This was harder for me to type than many people might think. The reflections here are both for myself, and for those who experienced EQ with me. I’ve tried very hard to include all of my special mentions, but I thank all of those who I have had the please of being guilded with over the years with for their efforts and contributions.
I joined this guild when it was known as Intrepid, with the assistance of a friend named Tyni. Velious had just recently been released and I was not yet the minimum level of 54, but the Intrepid/PN cleric recruiting war allowed me access into the raiding machine.
From my early beginnings I would like to thank:
Kariina – for making me switch servers to Tholuxe
Tyni – for getting me a chance to apply to the guild
Kaiden – for his support on my application
Marke – for permanently guilding me
I spent a lot of time raiding, often 10 hours a day each weekday, as Intrepid’s advantage over the rest of the raiding Tholuxe population compounded. I learned how to raid as a cleric from great players like Calehedron, Daramek, Mapple, and Xedious, to name a few.
With the release of Luclin came a leadership and guild name change. Many clerics left Kupo Flux and I was asked to be the class officer, an honor I will remember for as long as I remain in game. Our guild developed quickly and many close bonds were formed. People who play MMORPGs always remember particular times and events, and Luclin was, without a doubt, the most meaningful time period in EQ for me.
From Luclin I would like to thank:
My cleric family: Athenea, Khaeris, Liendara, Shealia, Sori
Ainmer – for having confidence in, and respect for, me
Nizzi – for being a friend independent of the game, within the game
Trinkit – for being a great companion
The next big thing was Planes of Power, and our guild underwent another change – a merge with Rendered Asylum. It took a little time and a lot of work, but “the new” Malus Imperium defeated the Plane of Time and ensured dominance over Tholuxe until it ceased to exist.
From Planes of Power I would like to thank:
Cleric friends: Blumpkinn, Cambrian, Kyreth
Boggrog – for becoming the type of friend who I’ll always want around
Kikina – for sharing and caring
Maynarrd – for keeping raiding, fun, and success interrelated
May playtime slowed following Planes of Power, after many close friends left the game and I was faced with being a part-time raider at the dawn of yet another set of expansions. I can’t even remember how most of them went… but as the guild raided, so too did I.
People like Bonkr and Silmare kept me in the game as Malus Imperium rotated through guild leaders and guild members. A lot of work went into getting me, and other part-timers, the flags we needed – thank you to all who helped.
As of late raiding with Malus Imperium has not been the same experience as it always has been for me. I would like to think that most of it is due to the loss of friends over time, and a gradual feeling of anomie, yet in recent months I admit that feelings of inequality have reduced my enjoyment of the game, and the guild.
Reduced, but not eliminated. I still enjoy raiding and am glad I have been able to participate in this guild’s activities for so long. I’ve wondered for the past few months whether a guild is the concrete tag I’ve played under for almost five years, or if it was the impervious collective of people I’ve played with. While I’m still not certain of the answer, I know it’s my time to leave.
From my guild as it is, Malus Imperium, I would like to thank:
Saliny – for leading the guild, and for always taking the time to help
Aalanar – for the work it takes to organize a group of high-end clerics
Axxius – for as little as your help in working on my Skylance flags
Kenmanjo – for your work, and for a chat we once had about “that feeling”
Pojke – for allowing me to feel like I was a part of the guild’s strategies again
Qwezek – for helping my friend and myself when nobody else would
The Warriors – for allowing me to be a part of your team
I’d like to also thank perennial members like Jamdread, Kallel, and Metern. I salute you for your loyalty.
Finally, I would like to thank the person who single-handedly kept me in this guild for the past year. You made me a member of the warriors and always stood by me and I never once, in all of our years together in this guild, felt that you were anything less than a friend. This is by far the hardest thank you, but Renfoe, I do thank you for everything.
Someone once reminded me that a guild tag doesn’t make or break friendship. To the friends I have here in Malus Imperium, please keep in touch.
Sincerely,

Anon.. i know i didn't get the chance to know you much, but you were the first person in MI i grouped with and made me feel welcome here...
To answer the question above... its the people, its never the tag. Times change and the people change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. it is the people you joined the guild to be with, not the guild tag to aquire.. its just a tag..
Its kinda like going to a party with 15 of your friends.. as the night wears on.. the friends pack up and go home... when your the last one left in a room full of strangers, or newly aquired associates.. do you stay? or go home?.... .. most normal people go home, get a good nights sleep and the next day go hook up with their friends again.. .... So in the end.. its always the Friends we make and the people we know that make or break us in game.
I wish you the best of luck in what ever you chose to do.
Hugs! _________________

See you around Anonimus. Always had a lot of fun with you and you definitely were one of the top clerics even if not in gear. You kept things light and upbeat when you were on and for that i also thank you. _________________ Valiant Nathanar DaliTysonian
